AFTER APPLYING WATER
Key Takeaways
Control vs. Letting Go
The nature of watercolor pencils allowed me to tap into my perfectionist side when drawing and coloring the flower and vase. Once I started applying water, things got a little messy, which taught me how important it can be to let go and allow the medium to shine and do its work.
Accounting for Change
Using the right materials is everything in 2D art. As someone more versed in colored and graphic pencil drawings, this project was straightforward and brought a sense of familiarity with it. The unfamiliar aspect was implementing a technique with the dry pencils that would maximize the outcome of the painting once I added water.
The Evolution of Art
This medium speaks directly to the evolution of not only art but of any standalone piece. From conception to reality, I witnessed this painting go from a sketch to a colored pencil drawing to a vibrant and rich watercolor painting. Seeing this transformation made all of the time and effort worth it.
